Presentation and objective

The Museum Centre, inaugurated on 14 of December 2001, is embraced in the cultural role of the Macau Holy House of Mercy Mission. with the objective of promoting the history of a centuries-old institution that interconnects and mingles with the origins of Macau and reflects the work developed by the Catholic Church in the rapprochement of western and eastern civilizations.

The acquis is composed mainly by items of religious art that served as support to the liturgical activity, images and sculptures for the exhibition of altars, as well as other pieces collected down the centuries with natural emphasis for the original manuscript of the Commitment of the Macau Holy House of Mercy dated of 1662.

The distinctive collection of porcelain and Chinese, Japanese and European ceramics with the monogram of the Society of Jesus, reveals a unique and symbolic artistic-religious blend of the multicultural legacy of Macau.

The Centre is located in the main building of the Holy House, itself an important element of the Architectural Heritage of the Fraternity and classified as World Heritage by UNESCO in 2005.
